INTRODUCTION

There is some controversy over what the Daily actually is. Essentially there are to major views, one being that it is the High Priestly ministry of Christ, and the second view is that the Daily is Paganism.

Daniel 8:11-13 (KJV) Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practiced, and prospered. Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

By means of a twisted jesuit doctrine, lack of understanding, and lack of study, this portion of passage is one of few that have people looking for a physical third temple to be built. What is this passage saying? Some of the error could come because on the surface, the wording seems confusing. We are going to use the bible, and the left side of our brain, to see what this passage is saying.

We are going to start with verse 13, as it is the easiest to define and then we can better understand 11-12.

VERSE 13 - Section 1

Daniel 8:13 (KJV)
Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

1.1 Transgression

1. The breaking of God's law
a. 1 John 3:4 (KJV)
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

2. Transgression is sin
a. Romans 7:7 (KJV)
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet
.

3. This power is breaking the Law of God and living in sin
a. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 (KJV)
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

4. Making desolate the truth of God's Word
a. Daniel 7:25 (KJV)
And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
b. Daniel 8:12 (KJV)
And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.

1.2 The Daily
1. If you have a good King James Bible, you will have to look this up to see. Notice that "sacrifice" is in italic's; which means it's a supplied word and not in the original text.

2. THE DAILY comes from the Hebrew word tāmîd which actually means continually; and is linked up with the TRANSGRESSION OF DESOLATION by the word AND. This is like saying Wayne and Julia Smith; two different people with the same association of the last name Smith. Therefore, THE DAILY is essentially linked to an evil power because what fellowship does light have with darkness (
2 Cor 6:14-15), and Christ with Balial.

1.3 The Sanctuary
THE SANCTUARY
1. From the Hebrew word qodesh, which only refers to a sanctuary of God; whether earthly or heavenly. We'll get to more of this later.

2. Chronologically looking at this prophecy, we see that the pagan roman empire has already arose. Remember that the roman catholic church is the little horn, but it was pagan rome, through Titus, that drove the earthly sanctuary into the ground when they destroyed Jerusalem in 70AD.

3. When we look at the topic of the CLEANSING OF THE SANCTUARY, we will see that Christ moved to the Holy of Holies because He started His High Priestly ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary in 31 AD, because this earthly sanctuary was just a shadow and example of the heavenly (
Hebrews 8:1-6).

4. When placing things together, we find that the SANCTUARY referred to can only be the Heavenly Sanctuary with the ministry of Christ as our High Priest. This will become clearer as we go.

1.4 A Host
1. Mass of persons.

2. This mass of persons is connected with the Heavenly Sanctuary and the High Priestly Ministry of Christ (
2 Cor 6:14-16).

3. The mass of people are God's people.

4. They are being trodden under foot, which is brought to light in Rev 11:2, where the papacy is treading under foot the holy city, that is, God's church (His people) for 3 1/2 prophetic years (1260 actual years).

1.5 Relationships of Two
1. SANCTUARY and HOST are linked by BOTH and AND.

2. DAILY and TRANSGRESSION were linked by AND

3. the DAILY AND TRANSGRESSION are treading underfoot BOTH the SANCTUARY AND HOST.

1.5 Comparing Two Beliefs
1. Now that we know what these words mean and, especially, how they are linked, let's replace these words with the meaning of the words and see what they look like. First, we are going to look at it through the eyes of the popular teaching and belief by replacing the words with what the popular teaching says they are.
a. “Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain [saint] which spake, How long [shall be] the vision [concerning] the HIGH PRIESTLY MINISTRY OF CHRIST [sacrifice], and the PAPACY, to give both the HIGH PRIESTLY MINISTRY OF CHRIST and HIS PEOPLE to be trodden under foot?"

2. This makes absolutely no sense at all. If the DAILY is the HIGH PRIESTLY MINISTRY OF CHRIST, then Christ joins with the papacy to trodden Himself and His people under foot. Now, let's put the meaning of the words which we have discovered in this study and see how it looks.
a. “Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain [saint] which spake, How long [shall be] the vision [concerning] PAGANISM [sacrifice], and the PAPCY, to give both the HIGH PRIESTLY MINISTRY OF CHRIST and HIS PEOPLE to be trodden under foot?"
NOTE:
Now that is complete harmony in the verse. Two evil powers treading under foot two good powers.

1.6 Conclusion
In the conclusion to verse 13 we see that by the "continuance" (daily) of desolation we understand that paganism, in the body of Christ, the people, is meant to be all through history. When we look through the ages and see that paganism has been the leading agency of satan's opposition to the work of God in the earth, we can see why the continuance, or daily, is applied to the desolation. We understand by revelation of other prophecy, and history, that the transgression of desolation is the papacy. It is the transgression (or rebellion, as the word also means) of desolation; as if under this period of the history of the church the desolating power had rebelled against all restraint previously imposed upon it.
a. “From a religious point of view, the world has presented these two strong phases of opposition against the Lord's word in the earth. Hence, although three earthly governments are introduced in the prophecy as oppressors of the church, they are here ranged under two heads: "the daily" and the "transgression of desolation." Medo-Persia was pagan; Greece was pagan; Rome in its first phase was pagan. These were all embraced in the "daily". Then comes the papal form, the "transgression of desolation," a marvel of craft and cunning, an incarnation of cruelty. No wonder the cry has gone up from suffering martyrs from age to age, "How long O Lord, how long?" No wonder the Lord, in order that hope might not wholly die out of the hearts of His downtrodden, waiting people, has shown them the future events of the world's history. All these persecuting powers shall meet an utter and everlasting destruction."
Daniel and the Revelation by Uriah Smith, pgs. 164 - 165.

VERSE 11 - Section 2

Daniel 8:11 (KJV)
Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.

2.1 Magnified Himself Even to the Prince of the Host
1. The leader of the Roman Catholic Church magnifies himself up, even before Yeshua; declaring himself Christ in the flesh.

2.2 Daily Was Taken Away
1. “taken away” from the Hebrew word ruwm, which means bring up, raise, lift up, set up, and exalt. In
Daniel 4:37 it is translated as ’extol’, 5:19, 23 set up and lifted up, 11:36 exalt. So this taking away of the daily is not a destruction of it, but an exaltation of it.

2. The Papacy took paganism into itself and exalted it under the garb of Christianity. You will find the Papacy riddled with pagan ceremonies that have been given a Christian name.

3. By the papal form of Rome the pagan form was taken away. Pagan Rome was remodeled into papal Rome; and the paganism was lifted up and exalted.

2.3 Place of His Sanctuary Was Cast Down
1. Sanctuary here is miqdash which is not God’s sanctuary but a pagan one (
Isaiah 16:12; Ezekiel 28:18) and unlike qodesh as used in verse 13 to describe God’s Sanctuary.

2. Thus, in continuation with the context of the passage, the sanctuary that is being cast down is that of paganism.

3. Pagan Rome’s place of worship, the Pantheon and Rome itself, lost its eminence when Constantine moved the seat/government of Rome to Constantinople in the East in 330 A.D. The city of Rome and the Pantheon (the place of pagan Rome’s worship) faded into the background as papal Rome absorbed the pagan idols, traditions, superstitious rites, and idolatrous ceremonies, exalting them through so called Christianity. This same transaction is recorded and brought to light in
Revelation 13:2, where the dragon (pagan Rome) gave the beast (papal Rome) its seat (the city of Rome).
Thus what was once the premier city of Roman civilization, and which contained the Pantheon, the epitome of pagan worship, was all at once replaced in position by the new Capital of Constantinople in 330 A.D.

VERSE 12 - Section 3

Daniel 8:12 (KJV)
And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.

3.1 An Host Was Given Him Against the Daily
1. “host” means a mass of persons.

2. A mass of persons was given to the papacy against the daily/paganism. This came in the form of Clovis, king of the Franks. He was converted to Catholicism in 496 A.D., and then went about converting the other pagan nations of Western Europe. This was done through war and capitulations. By 508 A.D. Clovis and his military strength, exercised on behalf of the papacy, had finished their work in success.
a. “PARIS-John Paul II is coming to France this month-his fifth visit since becoming Pope in 1978-to celebrate the 15th centenary of the baptism of Clovis, the first Western Christian king and founder of the modern French nation. It was as a result of that baptism-traditionally believed to have taken place in Reims in 496 A D.-that France glories in the title of the “eldest daughter of the Church...” (the Catholic Church that is) It was in Reims that Clovis, pagan leader of the Salian Franks, was baptized by St. Remi, the bishop of Reims, in the presence of all the kings nobles. He was to give to France (then still known as Gaul) its name, its capital, its first royal dynasty (the Merovingians, named after his grandfather, Merovec), and its official faith.” The National Catholic Register, September 8, 1996.

3.2 By Reason of Transgression
1. The transgression, or breaking of the law, was the combining of church with state, Clovis, to enforce religious dogmas. The papacy used the arm of Clovis’ military strength.

3.3 Cast Down the Truth to the Ground… Practiced and Prospered
1. This is exactly what we see has taken place in the Catholic Church. The truth is hideously caricatured, loaded with traditions, turned into superstition, cast down and obscured. As seen in Daniel 7, for 1260 years this evil power held sway over the hearts and minds of men and kings alike. Persecuting all who dared to dissent with her erroneous doctrines.

DANIEL 12:11-12 - Section 4

Daniel 12:11-12 (KJV)
And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

4.1 From the Time That the Daily is Taken Away
1. From the time that paganism is taken away and the conversion of Europe to Christianity in 508 A.D. after the conversion of Clovis, king of the Franks.
And the abomination of desolation set up

2. Margin TO set up the abomination of desolation. This marginal reading reveals the idea that the daily was taken away in order that the Abomination of Desolation could be set up. Without the removing of the ‘daily’ there would never have been an Abomination of Desolation. Thus the time being looked at here is not the setting up of the Abomination of Desolation but the taking away of the daily which was in 508 A.D.

4.2 Shall Be 1290 Days
1. 1290 years from 508 A.D. takes us to 1798 A.D. and the fall of the temporal power of the papacy.
1335 days

2. From 508 A.D. an addition of 1335 years takes us to 1843-44 A.D.

4.3 Blessed Is He That Waiteth
1. A blessing is pronounced upon those who not only come to the 1798 date, but which are able to also come to the second date at the end of the 1335 days.

2. Why is this? Because in 1798 the papacy received the deadly wound, which was tremendous in itself, but in 1843-44 the messages of the three angels began to be preached to the world about the second coming of Christ. At this time the church was in the period of Philadelphia and the experience was one of tremendous blessing to all who later recalled going through it.
