THE WAITING FALLACY

I want to address a couple things in relation to my video on stopping hypocrisy in the church. We often tend to swing like a pendulum, and I don’t want people in the church becoming any more hateful then they already are. Paul said, “if we don’t have love, none of this means anything”.

There is a popular modern teaching that says, “A person is fine in their sin, as long as the Spirit is not convicting them of it”. In other words, and I’ve heard it put this way, if they’re smoking dope, if they’re selling pornographic material, or watching pornographic material, or sleeping with their boyfriend or girlfriend, they are alright unless the Spirit convicts them of it.

I’ve got a question for those who believe or teach this... Did receiving Christ as our Savior give us a brain fart? The world knows a Christian is not supposed to smoke dope, the world knows the Christians is not suppose to get drunk, the world knows a Christian is not supposed to be lusting after porn, the world knows that a Christian is not supposed to be committing adultery by sleeping with their partner in an unwed condition. How is it that asking Christ as ones Savior suddenly makes a person forget this?

When a person comes to the front to get, what the church calls, “saved”; they are there because of one of three reasons: they were pushed to do it, they are sorry they got caught and don’t want to go to hell, or they are sorry for the sin they’ve done that caused Christ to die for them, and they want to repent. What is repentance except for a change of mind and path? What is born again? Unless one repents, unless they are born again, they WILL perish. If they come to the front in sorrow for the sin they have done, then they must know the sins they’ve done; otherwise, what are they repenting of?

Everywhere I look in this book, there is a radical change in those who made a decision to follow Christ. The disciples dropped everything and immediately followed. Paul immediately changed. Zacchaeus repented immediately, and he was considered to be the lowest of man - a tax collector. In Acts, when the sinners heard the message of Christ, they asked, “what shall we do”, they immediately wanted to make moves towards a Christ-like walk. They didn’t memorize the passage, they didn’t learn the Greek to it, they didn’t assemble and talk about what it would look like, they didn’t wait until the Spirit dealt with them - they just did it.

If “salvation” comes in a slow manner, if we must wait for the Spirit to clean us up; in the meantime living in the sin we are to repent of: if repentance is not required to be immediate, then God was in error and He owes Ananias and Sapphira an apology. It’s not God who was in error, it’s this theology that’s in error.

If your being told that you're ok with the sin you're doing until the Spirit convicts you, the person telling you this hates you. No, they don’t love you, and they are not really worried about hurting you, they're worried about themselves; they don’t want to be in the uncomfortable position or they don’t want to deal with their own junk and don’t feel comfortable warning you about yours. The Bible clearly says, “they HATE you”.

You shall not hate your brother in your heart: you shall rebuke your neighbor, and not suffer sin upon him... but you shall love thy neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord
(Leviticus 19:17-18)

The teaching of a prayer that magically, and immediately saves you and this teaching of staying in your sin until the Spirit convicts you, is not building the Kingdom of God but the lukewarm church of satan.

What does the Bible say? Christ said, in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man, that the ones living lives unsatisfactory to God have the Scripture to warn them. If they do not listen to Scripture, they will not even listen to a miracle of a dead man come back to life. If someone says they love God, they study Scripture and they do the commands of God. If they do not, they are liars.

And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him
(1 John 2:3-4)

This seems like a hard message but the reason the church is in the condition it’s in is because there are people and pastors running around tickling the ears of their congregation and allowing them to even work in ministries, while they know full well these people are toking, drinking, or screwing around. They’ve allowed a little leaven to enter in, and now the church is so leavened that they can’t do anything or they have to shut the doors.

Does the Spirit convict us of things, will He point it out? YES!!! There are little things in our lives that we are not aware we are doing wrong, but anything that the world knows is wrong for a Christian is not a little thing - and it’s not a secret. If the world knows, how would we not know; but we rather use these little cliches like, “forgiven not perfect” to justify our sinful living. I’ve had the Spirit confront me on things head on, wake me up at 2 am in the morning and say, “You need to look at this in your life”. I’ve also been reading the Bible and see something I was doing wrong and say, “I’ve got to correct that”. I’ve also had people come to me and say, “you have an issue in this area, look at what Scripture says”.

When a person is living IN sin, they may be shutting off the Spirit, they are not reading the Bible; because they know they are sinning and don’t want to be convicted of that sin. If we keep our mouth shut because we are too uncomfortable to confront them, we may be shutting off the only avenue that the Spirit of God has left to convict them of that sin. And, if we tell them they are ok until the Spirit of God convicts them, we are not working for God, we’re working for our own agenda; which means we are working for satan.

There are things in the Bible that I disagree with, but I have to understand and believe that there’s an order which God wants and He knows best. You see, Wayne did not say to remove the sexually immoral from the church, he didn’t say to remove the covetous and gossipers, the drunkards and extortioners - God did!! If you say, “no, that’s not right”; your not saying I’m wrong, your not saying no to me; you're saying God’s wrong, you're saying no to Him.

1 Corinthians 5:11-13 11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner--not even to eat with such a person. 12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore "put away from yourselves the evil person."

“Well, we are supposed to walk in love”. That’s right!! and the same man who wrote to kick the immoral man out of the church is the same man who wrote, “if we don’t have love nothing else matters”.

1 Corinthians 13:2 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

And it’s the same man who said to restore them.

He got that from the doctrine of Christ when he said to go after those who sin and try to restore them. Then CHRIST said, if they will not be restored they need to be removed.

Matthew 18:15-17 15 "Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that 'by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.' 17 And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.

And Christ, who spoke only what the Father told Him to speak, got it from God who said to love your neighbor as yourself, and don’t suffer sin upon them so you are to rebuke them”

Leviticus 19:17-18 17 'You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him. 18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.

Think about this and you’ll really see why the world hates us so much. It’s not because we are so loving and kind, it’s not because we “love” Jesus. It’s because we say, “Yeah, I may be sleeping with that man but I have Jesus in my heart. I’m forgiven.”; while we believe those in the world are going to hell because they are doing the same thing.

Now I’m talking about the obvious, the well talked about acts in the Bible. If we are not reading the Bible and seeking diligently after Christ, that’s a whole other salvation issue. There are the small sins, those ones that, when corrected, take us closer to godliness - that’s the growth - those are the ones the Spirit deals with after our initial repentance. But we can’t grow because we refuse to deal with the big stuff while making excuses.

Before we go to a brother or sister and try to heal them of their sin, beware that you may have some fingers pointed at you also. Yeah, we work in this together - what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Nothing in the Bible says to just push someone out of the church; Scripture shows a process - it's about love and restoration. We go to the brother or sister and say, look at what Scripture says, we can’t continue on this path. It’s their refusal that becomes the issue. There is no Spirit NEEDING to deal with us if God’s Word said it. And, if it said it, and we deny, we don’t follow.

So, Paul, in 1 Cor 5, is talking about people who are continuing in sin and refuse to repent if confronted in a loving way. Yes, we are to confront. Don’t we understand that we are Christ’s feet, hands, mouth? That’s why, immediately after the parable of the lost sheep, He tells US to go after the one who sins.

Deal with your junk, then help someone deal with theirs. But don’t get defensive if someone also comes to you. We watch each other's backs, we allow steel to sharpen steel. Make a study out of it, but don’t stop there - work it out with fear and trembling.
