PHIL ROBERTSON THE LBGT AND THE CHURCH

This video is going to be offensive to some people. If you are easily offended, you may want to turn it off.

Recently Phil, from Duck Dynasty, was laid off from his job on A&E because he spoke his religious feelings and quoted from Scripture. While some find this offensive, the Book Phil follows says if we allow our brother to live in sin, we hate them. It says we are to rebuke them - this is love your neighbor as yourself. Then its followed by the name of the person addressing it... I am you Lord.
You shall not hate your brother in your heart: you shall rebuke your neighbor, and not suffer sin upon him... but you shall love thy neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord
(Leviticus 19:17-18)

The Gay community finds Scripture very offensive because it confronts their sinful ways. There have been two avenues supporting Phil. There are those who may not be church goers who say he has a Constitutional Right, based on freedom of Religion, to say what he did without recourse. The other side is a lot of church goers who say he only quoted from Scripture and that's why it's offensive. While the words he said, pulled from the context of the whole article, sounds harsh - have you ever really read the Bible?

In Phil's use of Scripture, to some it was offensive and sounded judgmental; yet, if it's quotes from Scripture it will sound judgmental, for we are judged by the Word of God.

Right now, there are people who are whole heartily agreeing on this subject. Now I'm going to shift a bit. Because, while they are not all this way, the church is full of a bunch of hypocrites that believe in a double standard for them.

Recently there was a posting of a professing christian who was asking if they should tell their child santa was real. While several were giving their responses, a man came on and said that Christ said let your yes be yes and you no be no; therefore, we should not lie to our children so now would be a good time.

A woman responded asking if the commenter thought it was a sin to lie about santa. The man repeated the Scripture. That did not satisfy the woman, she wanted the man's opinion on it. The man said that the Law of God defines sin and Christ said we are not to lie, therefore it is a sin. The woman came on and asked if a person was not a christian if they lied to their children. The man replied that if we love Christ we keep His Commands. That did not satisfy the woman, she wanted to know the man's opinion.

Now, if you study Holy Scripture, you will see a pattern here that is paralleled with the Gospels. The pharasees often responded to Christ in the same way as this woman responded to this man. She wanted to find fault in him to satisfy herself.

The man replied with the words of John, "if you say you know Him and don't keep His Commands, you are a liar". He continued to say that he follows what Scripture says and not opinion therefore he would conclude that one who purposely breaks the Laws of God can not be a Christian.

Another woman, a professing christian, came on and said it was cruel and that the man had no right to tell someone how to live. The man responded, if you feel that way, you need to throw your Bible away because the New Testament is full of letters from men telling others how to live. I will add, might as well stop going to church because churches are filled with pastors telling their congregation how they are suppose to live.

There is a big fight over whether we should be lying to our children about santa, but this is not about that. There was another man who came into the conversation that also accused the first man of being cruel. He said the man called her a liar and was wrong by saying she was not a Christian and he seemed to be very offended by the comment to throw the Bible away because it would not do her any good. He felt this man handled it wrong. This is what I want to review real quick.

First lets start with the throwing the Bible away. This is only a logical response. If a person who does not believe that another person has a right to tell them how to live, by using Scripture I must note, there is absolutely nothing in that Bible they will listen to because it's full of men telling others, and telling US, how to live. Therefore, why have a book collecting dust that you will not listen to anyway. One reason many refuse to follow the Bible is for this very reason.

Second, the man was accused of being cruel. The fact that Scripture says to rebuke a brother in sin says that the man followed Scripture; and Scripture says it's love. Scriptures calls it cruel to allow a brother to continue in sin and not say anything. Funny how the church reverses Scripture.

Third, the man was accused of handling it wrong; his words were too harsh. Let's review the way Christ handled those who tested for their own agenda; and how other apostles handled sin within the church.

In Matthew 15, Christ condemns the pharasees for forsaking the Laws of God to keep their own traditions. Christ called them hypocrites. In Matthew 16, the pharasees tested Christ and again Christ called them hypocrites. The fact that the man did not call them hypocrites, or any other names for that matter, says that the man handled it more delicately than Christ.

Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition
(Matthew 15:3)

Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me
(Matthew 15:7-8)

O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times
(Matthew 16:3)

In confronting the Johannine community of sin, John said, "if they say they know Him (being God and Christ) and do not keep His Commandments, they are a liar and the truth is not in them". Since the man quoted this passage, he obviously followed the example given by John. And, one could argue that since the man quoted this passage, it was not the man who called people who choose not to follow God's commands a liar but actually the Bible.
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him
(1 John 2:3-4)

The book of James may not be a letter to any particular people but more of an example of wisdom literature. In James 2:8-12, James tells the reader that offending just one of God's Laws make them a sinner. And, for an example of what Law's he's talking about, he list's one of the Ten Commandments. When we back up, we see James quote from the Old Testament in love your neighbor as yourself. We seen earlier that this was in reference to not letting our brother live in sin; and James continues to say the same thing. In fact, James states that showing partiality to our neighbor is a sin in itself. The man in the comments followed the example of James, in letting people know that lying is a sin. Scripture proves that this was a action of love; while those who defend the people in sin were sinning themselves.
If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder
(James 2:8-11)

Some may feel that it's not bad to lie about santa, that's between you and God; but to those who take Scripture seriously, and God's commands for our lives seriously, though none of us are perfect, they understand there is no choice of compromise allowed in God's Kingdom. And the fact that it's just for a tradition was addressed by Christ Himself.

Some may know, and other may have guess but I wanted to let you know, the man who quoted Scripture to these people was I. And now, I have a message for this church age.

There are people watching this video who think I was really wrong in what I did. Do you support Phil in his comments? If so, the fact that you can support Phil in his comments about the gay community, saying he used Scripture and was not judging, yet condemn me in mine, makes you a hypocrite. You believe in double standards that it's ok to quote Scripture and voice our religious freedoms in doing so as long as it condemns the sin of someone else but don't you dare do it to me or someone I know. That's a double standard, that hypocrisy, and it's NOT God.

People think I need to be accountable for what I said. I quoted Scripture and followed the examples shown to us in the Holy Bible. I feel fine in my accountability. The problem with this church today is that they are fine judging those outside the church but they are not fine judging those in the church - another belief that is reversed from Scripture.

Today, the church runs around with a chip on their shoulder and their feelings on their sleeves. They've fulfilled prophecy in that they are easily offended and they will persecute those who live by and teach by a non-convoluted Gospel. They have fulfilled the prophecy of the church in 2 Timothy 3 that makes them despisers of those that are good; and they have a form of godliness but deny the power to walk within it - loving the things and traditions of this world more than God.

People feel that I should somehow reverse the words I used and be accountable for what I said. Of course, some of these same people feel that Phil should not have to reverse his - hypocrites. If the words were my words, and did not line up with the Word of God, I'd say yes; but the words I used were pulled straight from the pages of Holy Text and were delivered in a more loving manner than what Christ would had done to someone testing Him for their own agenda. If your waiting for an apology - don't hold your breath.

There are plenty of church and friends who will be happy to hate you and allow you to choose sin over God and continue on a path headed to Hell - I’m not him. For those who feel my words were wrong, though they were the Words of God, I'll offend you just one more time by using the words of Christ - Get behind me Satan.
But He said to Peter, “ Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men
(Matthew 16:23)
