DINOSAURS

Well, the debate on when dinosaurs lived is up again. It’s a shame when Christian media presents the Bible as false in supporting the theory that the world has been around longer than 6,000 years. Let’s look at what we are told by the Bible. This is a rather long writing but it's an interesting subject.

First, who wrote Genesis? The author of Genesis is both Moses and God; let me explain. Moses lived somewhere around 1400 - 1300 BC; give or take. We know Abraham lived somewhere around 2000 and the genealogy and ages of the men listed in Genesis puts the creation somewhere around 4004 BC. With over 2500 years of unrecorded history before Moses, how would he had known what took place?

After the exodus from Egypt and the building of the Tabernacle, Moses would enter into this Tabernacle and God would join Moses where they would talk like friends (Ex 33:7-11). It was at this time that God was telling Moses of the story to how they have gotten to where they are now. So, the story of Genesis was written by Moses from the words God spoke to him while they communed. This is one reason why this book is held so dear to the Jewish people as part of the Torah.

With this understanding we know that the time line from creation to now is pretty close. Yet, some may ask, doesn’t the Bible say 1000 years to us is like only a day to God (2 Peter 3:8); wouldn’t that mean that the earth was created in 6,000 years and not 6 days?

And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Gen 1:5 (KJV)
And the evening and the morning were the second day.
Gen 1:8 (KJV)
And the evening and the morning were the third day.
Gen 1:13 (KJV)
And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Gen 1:19 (KJV)
And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
Gen 1:23 (KJV)
And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Gen 1:31 (KJV)

God, in all His wisdom, knew this would become a question of debate and He provided for us the answer; six different times. When we understand this we know that God created the earth in six literal evening and mornings; six days.

So when did the dinosaurs live? We find only one mention of a dinosaur in the Bible. Dinosaur is a modern term so many miss this passage:

15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. 16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. 17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. 18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. 19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. 20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. 21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. 22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. 23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. 24 He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
Job 40:15-24 (KJV)

Key words in this passage: tail like a cedar, bones like bars of iron, eats grass as an ox, drinks water with his mouth, and can drink up a river.

In a request, in June 1997, for information on cedars in the middle east, the Tree-ring Lab of the University of Arizona had this to say:

Hi ,
Well this certainly is one of the more original questions I've ever answered. In the Middle East, there are several species of trees that would qualify for "cedar" status. Basically, any juniper-like tree can be called a cedar. However, the tree most likely referred to is the famous well-known species called "Cedrus libani", or "cedar-of-Lebanon," a beautiful and stately tree that grows in the Middle East. These trees can be quite large! I worked on cross-sections from one tree that were about 1.5 meters in diameter. The tree can attain heights greater than 40 meters with a diameter greater than 3 meters! The tree is a favorite nursery tree and is now planted all over the world, even many here in Tucson, Arizona. Hope this helps.

There is not one single animal living today that fits all the criteria listed in this description. In fact, there has been only type of animal in history to have a tail this large and fit all the other criteria as well; the Brachiosaurus family.

No one knows the exact time of Job’s life and trials, but Job lived after the flood (Job 22:15-16) and before Abraham as there is no mention of the children of Israel.

If we look at this passage, where God was talking to Job about Bohemoth, God tells Job to “Behold now” which means “Look at”. It’s like saying, “Look at the Bohemoth” which means then there must have still been this dinosaur in existence during the life of Job. They certainly were made when God made creation: “which I made with thee”. Thus there must have been a devastating event that happened after creation and before Abraham.
