BUILDING ON A ROCK VS. BUILDING ON THE SAND

(Matt 7:24-27; Luke 6:47-49)

In both Matthew and Luke, we see that Christ was talking about the fruits which we produce. Matthew expands on what Christ was talking in relation to false prophets that will come to us and also not all who cry Lord, Lord will be saved.

On a flight from NYC to England, the pilot of the Boeing 757 comes over the speaker and says, "The co-pilot and I have been talking. He believes that this plane could also double as a submarine. I was not so sure, but he is completely sincere in his belief that it will work. Because of his sincerity, we would like to give it a try."

"Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:" (2 Thessalonians 2:9-11)

Y’shua is warning of man's doctrine, and though we may be sincere in our following, if we are following these man's doctrine we will cry Lord Lord and not make it to Heaven.

"For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Y’shua the Messiah" (1 Corinthians 3:11)

Y’shua is warning that the following of man's doctrine will be like a man building his home upon a sand foundation. The doctrine of man will come by means of "false prophets". These false prophets come in many forms. The very foundation started with the advancement of roman catholicism, to which they combined paganism with Christianity. This was passed down to protestantism by means of the reformers, who, though maybe well intentioned, taught many of the same pagio-christian practices which they were trained in as followers and leaders within the roman catholic church. Today, many of those pagio-christian teachings thrive in churches, from baptist, to methodist, assemblies of God, pentecostal holiness, and even non-denominational; this is by no means an inclusive list. All denominations carry some sort of paganism, some more than others. In some denomination they know better but the practicing of pagan rituals is still performed.

Y’shua was telling us we need to build our home on the Rock; which is to say, upon His Words. We understand these words by Scripture and, if we truly examine and change ourselves accordingly, we can start building on Him.

Notice though that in verse 26 of Matt 7, Y’shua says, "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and DOES NOT DO THEM, will be like a foolish man..." (Matt 7:26)

It's not just deception that can cause us to build on the sand, but also refusal to follow, as in a rebellious child.

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because YOU HAVE REJECTED KNOWLEDGE, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the Law of your God, I will also forget your children." (Hosea 4:6)

It is unfortunate, a great many people reject such teachings; even though a plethora of Biblical and historical sources are used to show the truth of what is being said, taught, and warned about. There are many who think they know the Bible inside and out, a claim which no man can make, yet they follow teachings of doctrine of men; following pagan practices and doctrines mixed with christianity. This is the importance of a true, unadulterated, study of God's Word.

"Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise." (1 Corinthians 3:18)
